Clevo’s newest laptop comes with two GTX 1080s in SLI, along with the upcoming Intel i7 7700K desktop-grade CPU and 64 GB of memory
Clevo/Sager is known for its over-the-top gaming laptops. The company has outdone itself, though. The latest upcoming mobility machine from the manufacturer is going to blow away even those with ultra-high-end desktop rigs.
The laptop, named P870X, was first spotted on E-bay. An unusual choice by Clevo. But that is merely the start of surprises. Right off the bat, you get not one but two GTX 1080s in SLI. This effectively takes care of the gaming credentials of this beast. Also, as there are a few other options with dual GTX 1080s, you might not be impressed much by this notebook. Hold your hats, though.
To make full use of the SLI config, Clevo has gone with a 4K display. It is IPS, so expect solid color accuracy. In fact, it has an Adobe RGB score of 100%. There’s also GSYNC, which almost guarantees smooth frame-rates at all times. It will also have Intel’s new Core i7 7700K CPU. The yet unreleased chip is a full-fledged desktop part, with 4 cores and 8 threads. But even though it is overclockable to 4.5 GHz, expect some bottlenecking with two GTX 1080s in the hood.
If you thought this wasn’t crazy enough, here’s something really crazy. The laptop will have 64 GB of DDR4 RAM, overclocked to 3000 MHz. Storage wise, it comes with 10 TB of SSD space. That’s 3 Samsung 960 Pros of 2TB each, and 2 Samsung 850 Pros of 2TB each. Yeah, let that one set in for a bit.
Other, less extravagant features include an RGB keyboard, decent audio system with a subwoofer and a FHD webcam. The fact that you’d have to carry 2 power bricks to run this thing should tell you a lot about this machine. And with 2 desktop GPUs, and a desktop CPU, it is only fair.
We’re going to go out on a limb here and guess that buying this notebook could prove to be problematic for a lot of people. With a price tag of $16,000 USD, one can either buy this or pay a few months mortgage on their house.
